Neighborhood Maps was built using Google Map's free, public API. PlaceVision integrated the API with custom PhP/MySQL scripts to help you build a custom Google map.

Google Technology
Neighborhood Maps works with the free and the Enterprise version of Google maps. Users of Neighborhood Maps must agree to the Terms of Service set forth by Google for the use of Google maps on a private web site.

The free version limits the number of queries per 24 hour period to 10,000. If you anticipate more than 10,000 queries per day of your Neighborhood Map, we suggest you purchase the Enterprise license to Google maps. If you intend to password protect Neighborhood Maps, you must purchase the Enterprise license.

The Enterprise version is not necessarily better. It should only be considered if you intend to map private data or anticipate more than 10,000 queries on a daily basis. It does not come with added features such as an easy-to-use interface to enable you to create custom maps. This limitation is overcome with Neighborhood Maps as the interface to producing Google maps mashups.

Customization Options
Neighborhood Maps is programmed in PhP and MySQL. It was created by PlaceVision in Chicago, IL. If you desire additional fields for data or to expand its capabilities to upload PDF documents in addition to images to Neighborhood Maps, please contact us. We can customize it in a variety of ways to enhance your workflow and showcase your content.

If you prefer to work exclusively with your web developer on the customization of Neighborhood Maps capabilities, you can.  It has been built with one of the most popular web programming languages, PhP and MySQL, so your web developer may customize it for you without any violation of the license agreement. Ensure you purchase the Silver edition for access to the code.

What is Neighborhood Maps?

Neighborhood Maps is an application that runs on your web server to provide you with a customizable Google map experience. It enables you to publish a map on your site easily. It integrates with your site to match your branding. You could pay a web developer to create a similar feature for your site but it would be expensive. When applications have been programmed, they go through a life cycle of testing, modifying, and testing. This process can take months to complete. We have already done this so you can have a bug-free application without the hassle of creating it from scratch.

What is a mashup?

A mashup is a term used in the mapping and technology world when people use popular technology owned by a company to show personalized information on a private site. Google maps is a popular, user-friendly technology available for mashup use. The mashup “magic” happens through Neighborhood Maps. It programs your addresses and images automatically for Google maps to read and map.

How much does Neighborhood Maps cost?

We are happy to offer clients the latest technology without the development costs. It could easily cost you over $3,500 to have your web developer create a Google map mashup tool for your web site. But why spend that much money when you can purchase it bug-free and have it installed the same day?

If you do not intend to modify Neighborhood maps code, but want to use it with the features and capabilities it natively comes package with, this is the version for you. It is available for $497 per site license. PlaceVision provides customization of its features for an additional fee.

Neighborhood Maps and Image Gallery Bundle
Want to capitalize on the features of Neighborhood maps with the ability to show more than one image per location? You need the bundle to integrate the features of Image Gallery with the mapping capabilites of Neighborhood Maps. It is available for $1297 per site license. PlaceVision provides customization of its features for an additional fee.

*A note about customization
If you work with web developers outside PlaceVision to customize your applications, PlaceVision is no longer able to provide technical support for your application. It potentially makes it extremely difficult for you to upgrade to a newer release of Neighborhood maps.

How do I install Neighborhood Maps?

PlaceVision prefers to install the application for you. If you have purchased web hosting with PlaceVision or one of its partners, we will install the application within a 24 hour time period. Please provide us with your site login information if you do not have PlaceVision hosting.

If you prefer to install it yourself, select the download option. You will receive an email to download the application from our server. You must know how to setup MySQL users and a database to properly  install Neighborhood Maps.  Installation support is provided for an additional fee.

What is the Image Gallery / Neighborhood Maps bundle?

The bundle does two things at once. When you insert images into Image Gallery, you have the option to add the image into Neighborhood Maps. If you select to add it to Neighborhood Maps, it is automatically added to Image Gallery and Neighborhood Maps. The image in the gallery, links to the image on Google maps, and in Neighborhood Maps the image links to the specific location of the image in the gallery.

Is it legal to put Google Maps on my site?

Google has made the functionality of Google maps publicly available for free to help us take advantage of their technology.  It is completely legal to use Google maps on your web site if it is publicly available. However, there are limitations. Google prohibits more than 10,000 queries within a 24 hour time period to Google maps.  You can purchase the Enterprise license to make an unlimited amount of queries.

Does Google own the right to my data?

Google does not own your data. Everything you upload to Google maps through Neighborhood maps remains on your web hosting server. It is merely displayed over Google maps, making it appear the information comes from Google. You own and retain the copyright to all of your data.

Can I password protect my data?

It is possible password protect images and documents. However, if you password protect them, they will not display on the map. Password protection is not a native feature. This is not a common request. PlaceVision can assist you in password protecting your data, if necessary.

How often are new releases of Neighborhood Maps going to come out?

Google continues to enhance the capabilities of Google maps but the basic functionality has not changed. PlaceVision is monitoring updates to Google maps and intends to release versions of Neighborhood maps  based on user feedback and requests. Releases will occur once a year.

What happens if I exceed 10,000 map queries in a day?

Your Google map will not display if you exceed 10,000 queries. However, your images and addresses will display on the page.

Can I run several Neighborhood Map applications on one web site?

Yes, but we do not suggest you do this. Every web site only receives one API key, therefore Google will add the sum of the queries generated from your web site and count it towards 10,000.

Why do I need my own domain name to run Neighborhood Maps?

Every web site receives an API key from Google so that your site can access Google maps. In order for Neighborhood maps to run smoothly, it requires the ability to write to folders on your server.  Web sites that provide you with a page or space are not robust enough and do not meet the database requirements.
